Halloween at the Zoo!

Check out this fun layout using Art Warehouse's Harvest Moon Collection by design team member, Jen Davis.  She loved using the cardstock sticker strips to create some fun borders on this layout and they were perfect for keeping in theme with the photos that she was using showcasing her daughter dressed up as WALL-e last year at their community's annual Zoo Boo!

Treat bag

I have been collecting goodies to give a sweet little friend of mine on Halloween.  I just love giving this little girl gifts because she is always so appreciative and thankful and is always so genuinely surprised when I have a treat for her.  I cannot wait to see her face on Halloween when I hand her this little gift bag filled with Halloween treats! ~ Patty Lennon

Ghoulies!

Wow!! Look at this spooky haunted castle created by Design team member, Stayce Dewid! Stayce used products from artist, Helen Dardik's new Ghoulies collection with our Bare Elements Reyna Castle Book.   I love how Stayce added Art Warehouse Spider Web Transparency to the front opening!  The finished project is adorable and ready for her your photos of her little trick or treaters! 

Colorful Creations

This past weekend I had the opportunity to spend the day at Colorful Creations demonstrating some of our products during their Fall bus tour!  It was fun to spend the day sharing ideas, meeting great ladies and creating with so many great CI products!  When I arrived at their store I was thrilled to see so many adorable make and takes available for their customers at the Art bar!  Here are a few of the spooky projects that are available this month featuring our Creative Cafe buttons and felt flowers!

Designer Jennifer Priest!

We recently came across some work by designer, Jennifer Priest and immediately emailed her to share her adorable layouts and a bit about herself.  Thank you Jennifer for sharing your beautiful work with Helen Dardik's Smarty Collection!

My scrapbooking adventure began in 1998 when I was pregnant with my first child. Time and life had gotten in the way of my parents filling out my baby book … next thing they knew, I was 18 and leaving home for the Army! I wanted to make sure my daughter had a completed baby book so I started scrapbooking with a mail order kit of pre-printed pages with journaling prompts, cutesy stickers, and instructions on where to place the pictures. Looking back, I’m amazed and excited about how far this hobby has come!

My style is ever-changing because I enjoy trying new techniques and products whenever I discover them. I find inspiration from many places; craft fairs are one of my favorite places to get layout and color ideas. I try to push the envelope with myself creatively and love a challenge!

In 2003, I branched out from just scrapping with my friends and started teaching classes at crops, local scrapbook stores, and expos. I’ve been involved in all things scrappy ever since! I currently serve on several design teams and am the Creative Director for Scrapbook Royalty, a nonprofit that benefits charitable causes through crafting. Growing Up!

The Studio Basics 101, Growing Up Collection is in stores now, and perfect for all ages. This school mini book is the perfect memento of a year of school, or a gift for a teacher!  All papers and embellishments are available from Preschool to 6th Grade! There is a 12" x 12" patterned paper for EVERY grade, with a coordinating back, that is a solid color. Our brave little monkey!

Design team member, Lori Gentile created this adorable layout titled "Our Brave Little Monkey" because it was the first time her youngest was willing to go out trick-or-treating with his big brother. The year before he was terrified and very overwhelmed with all the craziness of the holiday. He had a great time and we were so proud of him.The Helen Dardik Ghoulies collection and CI Boo Collection work perfectly together.

Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, aside from skin cancer?  According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), an estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among women in the United States this year. An estimated 40,170 women are expected to die from the disease in 2009 alone. Today, there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.

Consider these tips for early detection

• Perform monthly breast self-exams (PDF). Check your breasts monthly starting at age 20. Talk with your doctor if you notice any changes.

• Get regular checkups and mammograms as necessary. Mammograms should be done every one to two years for women age 40 or older. Begin at 30 if you're at high risk. 

Tips to help prevent breast cancer

• Develop healthy habits.

• Limit alcohol.
  
• Eat low-fat foods and lots of fruits and vegetables.
  
• Try to stay close to the weight your doctor says is right for you. Exercise regularly. 
• Stop smoking. When it comes to cancer, tobacco remains the single biggest risk. Smoking is responsible for at least a third of cancer deaths, according to the American Cancer Society. 
• Breastfeed. If you plan to have a baby, breastfeeding can help lower the risk of breast cancer
